The Precautionary Principle
Extracts and summary from the Danish Environmental Protection Agencys Conference
on the Precautionary Principle
Abstract
This conference report focuses on the meaning and application of the precautionary
principle: How much care is needed if scientific uncertainty arises about an action
which could have a detrimental effect on the environment? The debate tries to clarify this
question, and the presenters adress the issue from a number of different angles:
administrative, technical and economical, and social. This publication presents the
contributions made during the conference, gives short summaries and extracts of the debate
and question time.
