Phytochemical responses to herbicide exposure and effects on herbivorous insects

Abstract
The work carried out in this project was focussed on two issues, i.e. do sulfonylurea herbicides in general affect leaf-eating insect larvae and is the observed effects caused by phenolic compounds. This report demonstrates that the effects observed on herbivorous insects following treatment with chlorsulfuron is not found for two other sulfonylurea herbicides. In the chlorsulfuron case it was found that the mortality was closely correlated to the content of specific phenols.

The Danish Environmental Protection Agency will, when op-portunity offers, publish reports and contributions relating to environmental research and development projects financed via the Danish EPA.

Please note that publication does not signify that the contents of the reports necessarily reflect the views of the Danish EPA.

The reports are, however, published because the Danish EPA finds that the studies represent a valuable contribution to the debate on environmental policy in Denmark.
