Environmental Project no. 636, 2001
Report on the Advisory list for selfclassification of dangerous substances
Abstract
Lack of data represents a major problem in the assessment of chemicals dangerous
properties. The Danish EPA estimates that there are few or no data for 90 % of the
approximately 100.000 chemical substances on the European Inventory of Existing Industrial
Chemicals. Therefor, the Danish EPA has compiled this Advisory List for Selfclassification
of Dangerous Substances. With the aid of QSAR (Quantitative Structure-Activity
Relationship) models, the list identifies 20,624 chemicals for classification for one or
more of the following properties: Acute oral toxicity, sensitisation by skin contact,
mutagenicity, carcinogenicity and danger to the aquatic environment. The list is
not binding but intended as a help to producers /importers for their selfclassification
when no other reliable data are available.

The Danish Environmental Protection Agency will, when
op-portunity offers, publish reports and contributions relating to
environmental research and development projects financed via the Danish
EPA.
Please note that publication does not signify that the contents of the
reports necessarily reflect the views of the Danish EPA.
The reports are, however, published because the Danish EPA finds that
the studies represent a valuable contribution to the debate on
environmental policy in Denmark.
