Feminisation of fish

The effect of estrogenic compounds and their fate in sewage treatment plants and nature.

Abstract
The report gives an overview of existing knowledge on endochrine      disrupting chemicals in the aquatic environment.  The report concludes       that natural hormones and synthetic hormones used in contraceptives is      the most likely explanation on feminisation in fish.  The hormones are       excreted with domestic sewage by women.  Other chemicals with endochrine disrupting potential are not considered to play a significant role.

Please note that publication does not signify that the contents of the reports necessarily reflect the views of the Danish EPA.

The reports are, however, published because the Danish EPA finds that the studies represent a valuable contribution to the debate on environmental policy in Denmark.
