Assessment of Mercury Releases from the Russian Federation

Abstract
This assessment provides both an overview of sources of mercury releases in the Russian Federation, and a presentation of a considerable amount of detailed information and data about the flow of mercury in different processes. The assessment includes data on mercury released to air and water, deposited in landfills and waste dumps, as well as estimated total mercury inputs to society (intentional use and unintentional human mobilization), by source categories. The assessment provides the basis for the development of a possible mercury release reduction strategy for the Russian Federation. The data is available for the first time in English.

The Danish Environmental Protection Agency will, when opportunity offers, publish reports and contributions relating to environmental research and development projects financed via the Danish EPA.

Please note that publication does not signify that the contents of the reports necessarily reflect the views of the Danish EPA.

The reports are, however, published because the Danish EPA finds that the studies represent a valuable contribution to the debate on environmental policy in Denmark.
