Abstract
eng: For many years, heavy metals such as cadmium, lead and mercury have
been known for their potential to cause serious negative effects on humans and the environment. Therefore, gradually, certain restrictions on the use of these metals have been imposed nationally and internationally, and limit values and quality criteria have been established to reduce emissions and discharges into the environment.

Resumé
dan: Man har gennem mange år arbejdet på at regulere tungmetaller som bly, cadmium og kviksølv. Der er imidlertid en række andre grundstoffer, som i relativt ubemærkethed anvendes i stigende omfang, uden at man har særlig viden om dem. I projektet sammenfattes data om anvendelse, miljøegenskaber, toksikologi og forekomst i bl.a. affaldsstrømme for 11 af disse "grundstoffer i andet geled". Flertallet bruges i små mængder eller har ikke kritiske egenskaber, og vurderes derfor ikke at udgøre et problem. Enkelte stoffer bør vurderes nærmere.
