Environmental Project No. 568  2000

Brominated Flame Retardants: Toxicity and Ecotoxicity

Abstract
A toxicological and ecotoxicological data screening was made on 12 brominated flame retardants (BFR) used in Denmark. The objective of this project was to outline the existing knowledge about the health and environmental hazards of these BFR, based on results of a substance flow analysis project. It is concluded that some of the BFR may represent a health hazard, and because of environmental properties of some BFR the continued release may represent an increasing risk to aquatic organisms.
