*) It is possible that there are considerable quantities of mercury in gas sludge from the production of natural gas, but there have been no Danish studies of this. According to Maxson & Vonkeman, 1996
there are high concentrations in Dutch and German natural gas. It is not possible on the basis of the information available to estimate these quantities, and it is assumed they are disposed of in the sea.
**) It should be noted that the literature reveals great variation in the mercury content of crude oil. This could potentially be a question of a mercury content in crude oil of several tonnes/year.
