Working Report no. 11, 2006
Radioactive isotopes in Danish drinking water
Abstract
In samples of drinking water representing more than 40 % of the water delivered from water works in Denmark. The levels for beta radioactivity were met in the all waterworks while total alpha radioactivity exceeded the screening levels for 13 water suppliers. The radiation dose is far below the limit for radioactivity set in the Drinking Water Directive 98/83/EC. Groundwater from very different types of geological structures also shows that the concentrations of radioactivity were sufficiently low to meet the requirements in the Drinking Water Directive. The risk of finding drinking water in Denmark with unacceptable concentrations of radioactivity is very small.

The Danish Environmental Protection Agency will, when opportunity offers, publish reports and contributions relating to environmental research and development projects financed via the Danish EPA.
Please note that publication does not signify that the contents of the reports necessarily reflect the views of the Danish EPA.
The reports are, however, published because the Danish EPA finds that the studies represent a valuable contribution to the debate on environmental policy in Denmark.
