Abstract:
The focus of this investigation has been on the use of essential oils and fragrance oils for dispersion of fragrances in the home by use of candle diffusers and electrical fan diffusers. Data on chemical substances were received from producers and chemicals analyses performed to get information on the content of some fragrance allergens. The results of the investigation do not indicate any health risks by occasional use of aromatic oils, subject to the fact that only a limited number of substances have been assessed. On the other hand, based of the results of the investigation it cannot be rejected that daily use of 5-10 drops of oils in smaller rooms for a prolonged period in the long term may result in airway irritation.

Der er i denne undersøgelse fokuseret på brugen af æteriske olier og duftolieblandinger til at sprede dufte i hjemmet ved hjælp af aromalamper og elektriske duftspredere. Der er indhentet oplysninger om og analyseret for en række hudallergene parfumestoffer. Der er lavet sundheds- og eksponeringsvurderinger i forhold til indånding af stofferne. Resultaterne tyder ikke på, at der er helbredsmæssige risici ved brug af aromaterapiolier en gang imellem, med forbehold for, at der kun er vurderet på et begrænset antal indholdsstoffer. Til gengæld kan det på grundlag af undersøgelsens resultater ikke afvises, at daglig brug af 5-10 dråber olie i et mindre rum i en længere periode på sigt kan resultere i luftvejsgener.
