Abstract:
The RoHS substances have traditionally been used for a large number of purposes, and as electrical and electronic equipment is made up of multiple components, each of which is subject to the RoHS requirements, determining whether a product is compliant with the provisions of the Directive is an extensive task.

The content of lead, cadmium and mercury in individual materials can be determined easily and non-destructively using an X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry (XRF) screening method. For hexavalent chromium and the two groups of brominated flame retardants, PBDEs and PBBs, the XRF method is not immediately applicable, and there has consequently been a need for the development of relatively simple and cheap screening methods.

RoHS stofferne har traditionelt været brugt til en lang række formål, og da elektrisk og elektronisk udstyr indeholder mange enkeltdele, som hver især skal overholde RoHS bestemmelserne, er det en omfattende opgave at bestemme, om et produkt overholder bestemmelserne i direktivet.

Til bestemmelse af bly, cadmium og kviksølv findes der en anvendelig screeningsmetode, hvor man ved hjælp af røntgenfluorescens spektrometri (XRF) hurtigt og ikke-destruktivt kan undersøge forekomsten af stofferne i de enkelte materialer. For hexavalent krom og de to grupper af bromerede flammehæmmere PBDE og PBB er XRF metoden ikke umiddelbart anvendelig, og der har derfor været et behov for udvikling af relativt enkle og billige screeningsmetoder.
