Technology Programme for Soil and Groundwater Contamination 2005
Summary
In 1996 a programme was set up for development of clean-up and remediation technologies relating to soil contamination
The background and strategies of the development programme were described in the Danish EPA report "Programme for Development of Technology – Soil and Groundwater Contamination - December
1996", and each year since 1996 plans have been drawn up for projects to be carried out in the following year.
Since the programme started, about 146 projects have been initiated, of which 59 – have related to support, primarily for testing of various remediation technologies. The remaining projects (87) deal with
investigation of different remediation methods, or enhance general knowledge on soil contamination.
The Technology Programme was evaluated in 2002. The general result of the evaluation indicated that the programme has contributed considerably to the development of technology in the area. Experience
and know-how have been disseminated to the actors involved (regional authorities and consultants) in a useful manner /10/. Based on the evaluation the target issues in the programme were extended in
2003, to include pesticides. Following this decision three projects relating to pesticide point sources have been initiated, of this two in 2004.
This report presents the programme for 2005, listing ongoing projects, and describing proposals for projects to be carried out in 2005.
Funds reserved for 2005 amount to DKK 5.0 million, and the number of field projects to be initiated in 2005 will therefore be three to five projects.
Both private and public developers are eligible to support for projects to document or test specific remediation technologies. The Danish EPA will launch investigation projects and other projects on
contamination of soil.
In the beginning of 2005 the Danish EPA invites the regional authorities to submit proposals for sites that can be used to document selected remediation technologies relating to the issues highlighted in the
programme.
