Abstract
eng: The report compares different strategies for protection of groundwater against point
source contamination in five countries: Austria, Denmark, England, Spain and the USA. A
quantitative comparison is made of the environmental pressure and of the groundwater
resources. The role of the precautionary principle is discussed, and the concept of
milestones as an instrument to assess different protection strategies is introduced.
Milestones in efforts to protect the groundwater against point source contamination fall
into one or more of three categories: legislative, technological and implementary.

dan: Rapporten er en sammenligning af forskellige beskyttelsesstrategier af grundvand mod
punktkildeforureninger i fem lande, USA, Østrig, Spanien, England og Danmark.
Belastningen af miljøet og størrelsen af vandressourcerne blev sammenlignet kvalitativt.
Forsigtighedsprincippets rolle er drøftet, og der er introduceret et koncept om milepæle
som værktøj for vurdering af beskyttelsesstrategier. Arbejdet med beskyttelse af
grundvand fra punktkilder består af en serie milepæle, eksempelvis lovmæssige,
teknologiske og implementeringsmæssige.
