Title:
Evaluation of Analytical Chemical Methods for Detection of Estrogens in the Environment

Summary:
Methods for chemical analysis of estrogens in wastewater (incl. sludge), surface water, and agricultural matrices (soil/manure) is reviewed with the purpose of finding the best methods for monitoring estrogen pollution. Generally, the sensitivity demands are so strict that tandem mass-spectrometry (MS-MS) coupled with liquid (LC) or gas chromatography
(GC) must be used. Single MS- methods (esp. GC-MS) are sometimes acceptable, but tend to overestimate the concentrations.
