Abstract:
Ponds were often contaminated by pesticides from the surrounding cultivated fields but an uncultivated buffer zone around a pond reduced the amount of pesticide in the pond ecosystem. Thus the number of pesticide findings in ponds decreased with increasing width of buffer zone. It is hereby shown that an uncultivated buffer zone is very important for protecting against pesticides and that the width of the buffer zone is crucial to the degree of protection offered.

Vandhuller blev ofte forurenet med pesticider fra de omkringliggende dyrkede marker, men en udyrket bræmme omkring et vandhul reducerede mængden af pesticider der endte i vandhulsmiljøet. Således faldt antallet af pesticidfund i vandhuller med stigende bredde af bræmme. Det er dermed vist, at en udyrket bræmme giver en meget vigtig beskyttelse mod pesticider, og at bredden er meget afgørende for graden af beskyttelse.
