Emissions and evaluation of health effects of PAH's and aromatic amines
from tyres

Abstract
Car tyres are often used as swing and sandboxes. In order to asses potential health risks analysis of releases of the potentially cancerogene PAH’s and certain aromatic amines which can be found in the tyres have been carried out. The results have shown that there is no significant release of either the PAH’s or the aromatic amines. The report concludes on this basis, that there is no risk for children when car tyres are used as swings or granulated as impact absorbing playground surface.
