Survey of chemical substances in consumer products no. 70, 2006

Survey, migration and health evaluation of chemical substances in toys and childcare products produced from foam plastic

Abstract
Foam toys and childcare products are mainly produced from EVA and PUR foam. Based in this survey, it is recommended to focus on the content of phtalates of these products, as 2 of 6 products contained concentrations above the permitted limit value for phtalates in toys intended for children between 0-3 years. Furthermore, an analysis for content of organic tin compounds, flame retardants, metals and azo colorants was conducted, but they were not found in concentrations of concern for the safety of children.

The Danish Environmental Protection Agency will, when opportunity offers, publish reports and contributions relating to environmental research and development projects financed via the Danish EPA.

Please note that publication does not signify that the contents of the reports necessarily reflect the views of the Danish EPA.

The reports are, however, published because the Danish EPA finds that the studies represent a valuable contribution to the debate on environmental policy in Denmark.
