Statistik for plastemballage 2000

Summary

The purpose of this report is to illustrate the market development for recycling of plastic packaging waste in 2000.

The study shows the amount of plastic packaging waste being collected in Denmark and the amount of plastic packaging being consumed in Denmark. The table summarizes the results.

Source: Packaging Supply Amount in Denmark 1999 and 2000 as well as Reports to the Statistics concerning plastic packaging for 2000.

The statistical data concerning plastic packaging shows the following:
The amount of plastic packaging waste collected for recycling in Denmark in 2000 was 19.631 tons equivalent to 3.7 kg per inhabitant or 8.1 kg per household.

The potential in 2000 is 157,214 tons equivalent to 29.4 kg per inhabitant or 64.5 kg per household.
The amount of plastic packaging waste collected for recycling in Denmark amounted in 2000 to 19,631 tons. The increase in the collection compared to 1999 (adjusted) was 1,138 tons or 6.0 per cent. During the preparation of the statistics for 2000 a mistake in the statistics for 1999 was found. It means that the real amount of plastic packaging collected for recycling in Denmark in 1999 (adjusted) was 18,493 tons. The Agreement on Transport Packaging, as well as the municipal assignment schemes for transport packaging in 2000 caused a small increase in collection for recycling purposes.
In 2000 12.5 per cent of the plastic packaging waste in Denmark was collected for recycling.
PE made up approx. 73 per cent of the potential and approx. 78 per cent of the collected amounts. These figures are almost unchanged compared to 1999.
The export of plastic packaging rose from 1999 to 2000 by 64 per cent to 8,326 tons corresponding to 42 per cent of the total collected amount. In 1999 the export corresponds to 26 per cent of the collected amount.
Approx. 51 per cent of the plastic packaging being reprocessed in Denmark in 2000 was imported from abroad. In 1999 it was 37 per cent.
In 2000 the reprocessing companies had the capacity to receive at least 20 per cent more plastic packaging than they currently get. This figure has been almost unchanged since 1999.
