Environmental and Health Assessment of Substances in Household Detergents and Cosmetic Detergent Products

Abstract
The project aims at summarizing existing data on environment and health
properties of ingredients used in detergents, and cosmetic products for
private use. A number of ecotoxicological laboratory tests were made
to collect the knowledge required. The report presents a method to categorize individual substances on the basis of their properties relating to health and the environment. The metods can also be used in the assessment of substitutes, to evaluate whether alternatives are better than the original substances.

Abstract in Danish: Formålet med projektet har været at sammenfatte eksisterende data om miljø- og sundhedseffekter af indholdsstoffer der anvendes til vaske- og rengøringsmidler samt kosmetikprodukter til
privat brug. Der er blevet udført enkelte økotoxikologiske laboratorietests for at opnå tilstrækkelig viden. Rapporten præsenterer en metode til opdeling af enkeltstoffer på basis af deres miljø og sundhedsmæssige egenskaber. Denne metode kan ligeledes anvendes til at vurdere om alternativer er bedre end de oprindelige stoffer ved substitution.
