Emballageforsyningen i Danmark 2005

Summary in English

The consulting company LOGISYS A/S completed the survey of the Danish supply of packaging covering 2005. In principle, the method used in previous years has been used again. The new classification complies with the EU directive on packaging and packaging waste. Therefore, it is not possible to compare these figures with the figures from the previous years. However the figures for total packaging supply can be compared without problem.

The table below shows the total packaging supply for 2005:

Figure 5: The supply of packaging covering the period 1996-2005

Furthermore, a survey of the use of returnable packaging has been completed. This shows that there is a supply of 346 millions returnable packaging and in total this packaging circulated 1.8 billions times in 2005. If this quantity of packaging were one-way packaging, it would have increased the total supply of packaging by 939,000 tonnes per year – approx. doubling the present quantity of packaging.

The packaging statistics include a calculation of where the packaging quantities end as waste – in other words from where the packaging has to be collected prior to its disposal. This calculation will also be done in the years to come. The greatest packaging amount has to be disposed from private households. These account for approx. 47% of the total packaging waste.
