AMAP Greenland and the Faroe Islands 1997-2001

Vol. 2: The Environment of Greenland

Abstract
The Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme (AMAP) made their first assessment of the state of the Arctic environment in 1997. Since then substantial new data have been collected during AMAP phase II (1997-2001). The results of the Greenland environmental studies are presented and discussed in this second AMAP assessment report. It is organised into environmental compartments (atmospheric, terrestrial, fresh water and marine environment). A section deals with contaminants not covered in the "environmental compartment" sections. A section deals with contaminant effect studies in ringed seals and polar bears. Conclusions and recommendations are given at the end of the report.
