Radioactive isotopes in Danish drinking water

8 Total Indicative Dose

The Total Indicative Dose from consumption of drinking water containing radioactivity may be estimated from the analytical data. An adult consuming two litres of drinking water per day containing 0.2 Bq/l of each of the two uranium isotopes 234U and 238U (about 20 µg/l) and 0.04 Bq/l of 226Ra will receive an annual radiation dose of about 0.02 mSv. So even at the water works with the highest measured levels of alpha radioactivity, the annual doses are well below the parametric indicator value of 0.1 mSv/y specified in the EC Drinking Water Directive.
