Statistik for plastemballage 1999

Summary

The purpose of these statistics is to illustrate the market development for recycling plastic packaging waste in 1999.

The study shows the amount of plastic packaging waste being collected in Denmark and the amount of plastic packaging being consumed in Denmark. The table summarizes the results.

Source: Packaging Supply Amount in Denmark 1997 and 1998 as well as Reports to the Statistics concerning plastic packaging for 1999.

The statistical data concerning plastic packaging shows the following:
The amount of plastic packaging waste collected for recycling in Denmark amounted in 1999 to 19,493 tons (18.986 tons sold to the reprocessing companies, 379 tons stored and 128 tons ended as waste). The increase in the collection compared to 1998 was almost 70 per cent. The large increase is primarily because the Agreement on Transport Packaging, as well as the municipal instruction schemes for transport packaging have caused increased collection (particularly of LDPE foil) for recycling purposes. Secondly, the prices of virgin raw materials during the second half of year 1999 rose by almost 75 per cent. Consequently, the demand for reclaim has increased.
In 1999 11.3 per cent of the plastic packaging waste in Denmark was collected for recycling. This is an increase of approx. 70 per cent compared to 1998.
PE made up approx. 70 per cent of the potential and approx. 78 per cent of the collected amounts. These figures are almost unchanged compared to 1998.
The export of plastic packaging waste has almost doubled since 1998 and amounts in 1999 totalled 5.069 tons. This corresponds to 26 per cent of the collected amount.
Approx. 37 per cent of the plastic packaging being reprocessed in Denmark in 1999 was imported from abroad.
The reprocessing companies have the capacity to receive at least 25 per cent more plastic packaging than they currently get. This figure is roughly speaking unchanged since 1998.
