Summary and conclusions

The Danish Environmental Protection Agency encourages companies to include environmental considerations in product development. In this connection it was decided to focus on the competences of the environmental authorities in their dialogue with companies.

At the request of the Danish Environmental Protection Agency, Green City Denmark, and Technology Centre MTC therefore initiated co-operation on the development of a model for the dialogue between the supervising authorities and companies with regards to the life cycle assessment.

The primary objective of the project was to uncover possibilities for the establishment of a joint framework for work on LCA between the supervising authorities and the companies supervised.

The supervising authorities – being municipalities, counties, other supervising authorities such as the Danish Working Environment Service.

The project participants were 1-2 persons from each of seven companies and 1-2 from each of the seven public partners of the Green Belt (Videbæk, Herning, Ikast, Silkeborg and Århus municipality, as well as Ringkjøbing County and Århus County.

The results of the series of seminars were gathered in a collection of guidelines on how the supervising authorities can help companies get started on the LCAs, and how Green City Denmark and Technology Centre MTC in their own networking can initiate this process as a natural part of a company's environmental effort.
