Nordvestjysk Erhvervsråds vækstgruppeforløb i kemikaliestyring 2006 til 2007

Summary and Conclusions

Background and objectives

The objective of this project has been to prepare chemical management in enterprises and to prepare the enterprises on the tasks coming from the EU-regulation REACH which comes into force 1. June 2007.

The industrial development group of Nordvestjysk Erhvervsråd covered a geographical area not served by a local environmental network. The group had therefore not access to the web-based chemical management tool KEMIGUIDen but during the work of the group it got a test access which was deleted when the course ended.

The following enterprises participated in the industrial development group:

*      Cheminova A/S

*      Skjern Papirfabrik A/S

*      Valdemar Birn A/S.

*      Damolin A/S

*      Bollerup Jensens sæbefabrik A/S

*      Jysk Kemiproduktion A/S

*      EM-Fiberglas

*      Sydvestjysk Sygehus

*      Miljøcenter Vestjylland

The investigation

Focus for the industrial development group was the new tasks which the enterprises are going to prepare for the REACH implementation.

The background for the industrial growth group was the Key2Green manual in chemical management: http://www.kemiguiden.dk/manual.aspx. This manual has divided chemical management into 5 phases:

  • Clean-up
  • Inventory
  • Risk assessment of chemicals
  • Prioritering of chemicals for substitution
  • Substitution.

The industrial development group completed 5 seminars - one seminar per above issue and additionally aspect regarding REACH.

Between the seminars the enterprises worked the implementation of the theory presented at last seminar.

The homework was presented on the next seminar and due to the different seizes and level of chemical management of the enterprises, the home works were solved in very different ways.

Conclusions

The industrial development group has helped the enterprises to be prepared to the REACH-task by introducing chemical management.
