REACH for små og mellemstore virksomheder

Summary and conclusions

Background and Purpose

The purpose of this project has been to help SMEs to relate in a qualified manner to their possible responsibilities and challenges in relation to the new EU-legislation REACH through provision of information. Secondary it was the purpose of the project to build up local competencies primarily within regional environmental networls, in order to give SMEs easy access to updated knowledge on REACH at local level.

This project has focused on the need for information delivered through meetings, workshops and printed material, supplementing the internet based materiel provided by the homepages of Danish Environmental Agency (EPA) and the Danish Confederation of Danish Industries (DI) respectively.

Subsequently, the project has focussed on developing printed material describing what REACH is, (in the form of a REACH pamphlet and a REACH visiting card), the organisation of five meetings throughout Denmark and a Power Point presentation, giving a short introduction to REACH.

The Danish Agency for Environmental Protection and The Danish Confederation of Industries actively participated in all REACH meetings throughout the country, by providing highly qualified contributions.  Through this cooperation, both the EPA and the DI has meant that these two partners in cooperation with Key2Green and the regional networks has been able to reach companies  throughout the country.

The participation of the EPA and the DI has also meant that the participations were able to get immediate answers to even very specific and detailed questions, which has been highly appreciated by the participants.

The Project

The Project consists of the following:

A REACH pamphlet
A REACH ‘visiting card’
A coordinating  meeting targeting local advisors and authorities
5 REACH meetings in Copenhagen, Ålborg, Fredericia, Odense and Vejen
A REACH power point presentation

The project was carried out in collaboration by Key2Green and the regional environmental networks.

Conclusions

The REACH pamphlet has been sent to approx. 3000 companies. The pamphlet is also available on www.key2green.dk and the homepages of all the regional networks. The REACH visiting card has been handed out, and the regional networks will continue to hand out the card.

147 persons participated in the five REACH meetings. The participants represented a very wide range of companies from very small producers and importers to the professional users and local authorities.

Most of the networks have during later years been informing about REACH, and there is a clear wish, that this type and way of information about REACH, will be continued as REACH evolves.
