Energiforbrug og emissioner fra skibe i farvandene omkring Danmark 1995/96 og 1999/2000 Summary and conclusionsThis project evaluates the development in energy consumption and emissions from shipping in the waters surrounding Denmark in the period 1995-2000. Ferries are related to the years 1996 and 2000, other groups of ships to 1995 and 1999. The waters surrounding Denmark are in this context defined as the waters between the 6th and 16th eastern longitudinal, with north/south boundary on Norway-Holland, and Sweden-Poland. The calculations have been done for 4 major groups of ships: Ferries, Merchant Vessels, Fishing Vessels and Leisure Crafts. The ferry group is divided into 3 subgroups each representing Fast ferries, Conventional ferries and Island ferries. The calculations were done using the Ministry of Traffics TEMA 2000 model. This model calculates energy consumption and emissions from different kinds of transportation. The calculations is quite extensive, illustrated by the fact that ferries calls at Danish harbours approximately 700.000 times a year, travelling a distance of approx. 8.500.000 kilometres. Other merchant vessels are represented by 145.000 ships movements, from 7.200 destinations, resulting in 28.000 different routes, covering a distance of approx. 74.000.000 kilometres. 1999/2000
Energy consumption and emissions from shipping in the waters surrounding Denmark 1999/2000 The following table shows the total energy consumption and emissions from ships operating in the waters surrounding Denmark. 1999/2000
Energy consumption and emissions from shipping in the waters surrounding Denmark 1999/2000. 1995/1996
Energy consumption and emissions from shipping in the waters surrounding Denmark 1995/1996 * It has not been possible to make a direct comparison of energy consumption and emissions from merchant vessels in the two periods, due to inconsistency in the database search. In paragraph 9.7.5 a comparison between the merchant vessels values from 1995 and 2000 has been made according to the criterias on which the database search was made in 1995. These calculations indicate that there has been a considerable rise in merchant vessel traffic. The tables above show, that there has been a reduction of approx. 30% in energy consumption and emissions from ferries in the period 1996-2000. This is the result of the building of 2 major bridges, spanning the Great Belt and The Sound. The Great Belt Bridge alone resulted in the reduction of 60.000 ferry departures, by major ferries, on this route. The energy consumption and emissions from fishing vessel and leisure craft has not changed significantly in the period. Merchant Vessels are the major contributor to energy consumption and emissions, counting 75% of the total from ships in Danish waters in 1999.
