Organiske restprodukter i industrien

English Summary

This report makes up the total amount of organic waste in Denmark on basis of statistics for sold goods supplemented with questionnaires and visits to industries as well as telephone interviews. The used data material dates back to 1992, 1993 or 1994 and holds for industries with more than 10 employees, only.

Products dealt with are referred to as rest products or by-products from the industry instead of the more common word waste.

The rest products estimated are grouped into four categories, which makes it possible to compare the application of these by-products in different lines of business. Category I includes by-products substituting other raw materials. By-products in category II are used in biogas systems and are subsequently used as manure on landfill. In categories III and IV the rest products are used directly as manure on farmland or are deposited or incinerated, respectively.

It is estimated that in Denmark there are about 8,400,000 tons of organic by-products on wet weight corresponding to 1,200,000 in dry weight. By-products substituting other raw materials encounter 47%, and the main part is utilized by farmers as feed. Around 44% of the total of 8,500,000 tons is used in category III as manure on landfill.

It is important that the degree of recycling is very high, as only 1% is deposited or burned (category IV). It is concluded that the sale of by-products is optimal in the vast majority of cases. The recycling is primarily ruled according to law, economy including imposed duties, the enviromnental policy, traditions, local relations and subjective attitude towards the customer as well as the society in general.

The sale of by-products in the categories I-III is estimated to be steady in the very near future, as the recycling of rest products generally is very appropriate, because it follows the best way of utilizing the valuable by-products.
