Noise Emissions from Motor Sports Vehicles, Asphalt Tracks

Summary and conclusions

Noise emissions from Road Racing motor cycles have been measured during a session of the National Championship at Vandel on 5th May 2002. Vehicles from all participating classes were measured. In addition the noise emissions were measured for race sports cars during a session of the National Championship at Jyllands Ringen on 29th September 2002.

The A-weighted immission relevant sound power level, determined by use of the proposed declaration method [2] is for the Road Racing vehicles:

  • 128 dB for Superbike
  • 129 dB for 125/250ccm racer
  • 123 dB for 125ccm standard
  • 130 dB for entusiast/supermotard
  • 125 dB for Rookie I and 250-400ccm standard
  • 126 dB for Rookie II, and
  • 107 dB for 80ccm standard (four vehicles only).

The A-weighted immission relevant sound power level for the race sports cars, measured by the same method, is:

  • 122 dB for Saxo cup
  • 119 dB for Group N under 1600 ccm
  • 118 dB for Group N over 1600 ccm
  • 121 dB for Historical cars class 1
  • 122 dB for Historical cars class 2
  • 129 dB for DTC
  • 127 dB for Formula Ford, and
  • 128 dB for Formula Renault.

All values are given in dB with reference to 1 pW. The estimated measurement uncertainty by use of the declaration method is 3 dB.
